Duration: 8 Days / 7 Nights (2 Nights in Arusha + 6 Days on the Mountain)
Accommodation: Mountain Camping
Best Season: June – October & December – March
The 6-day Machame Route is one of the most popular and scenic ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Often called the “Whiskey Route,” it is known for its beautiful landscapes and varied terrain. The trail begins on the southern side of the mountain and passes through rainforest, heather and moorland, and alpine desert before reaching the summit zone. The route follows a “climb high, sleep low” profile, which helps with acclimatization and increases summit success rates.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where after completing immigration and customs formalities, you’ll be greeted by our driver at the arrivals area.
Transfer to Arusha Town for check-in at your hotel.
In the evening, you’ll have a pre-climb briefing with your Head Guide to discuss the trek, review your gear, and address any questions you may have.

Commute Time: Approx. 1 hr 30 mins from Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha.
After breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate for registration and formalities. Your trek begins around 12:00 PM.
The 2-hour drive from Arusha passes through Machame Village, located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail winds through lush rainforest, often damp and slippery — gaiters and trekking poles are recommended.
Upon arrival at Machame Camp, settle in for dinner and rest after your first day on the mountain.
Overnight: Machame Camp
After breakfast, leave the rainforest and continue on an ascending path through moorland terrain. You’ll cross a small valley and climb a rocky ridge covered with heather, offering your first stunning views of Kibo Peak.
Overnight: Shira Camp
Today is a key acclimatization day. After breakfast, continue east up a ridge toward the Lava Tower a volcanic formation known as “The Shark’s Tooth.”
After lunch near the tower, descend to Barranco Camp at 3,950 m. Although you’ll end at roughly the same altitude as you began, this hike plays an essential role in helping your body adjust to the altitude.
Overnight: Barranco Camp
After breakfast, climb the Barranco Wall a rewarding and scenic section offering magnificent views. The wall looks intimidating, but it’s a manageable and enjoyable climb.
Continue through Karanga Valley, then ascend to Barafu Camp, completing the Southern Circuit, which provides panoramic views of both Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks.
Dinner will be served early to allow time for rest, as the summit attempt begins at midnight.
Overnight: Barafu Camp
At midnight, begin your summit ascent between Rebmann and Ratzel Glaciers. This is the most challenging part of the climb physically and mentally.
Arrive at Stella Point (5,790 m) around sunrise for breathtaking views (weather permitting). Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) the highest point in Africa!
After photos and celebration, descend to Barafu Camp for lunch, then continue to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest. Expect mist or light rain as you return to forest terrain.
Overnight: Mweka Camp
After breakfast, continue descending to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate.
The lower trail can be muddy — gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. Shorts and T-shirts are ideal, though rain gear should be kept handy.
Transfer back to Arusha, where you’ll relax and celebrate your climb.
Overnight: Venus Premier Hotel (BB)
