Duration: 10 Days / 09 Nights (2 Nights in Arusha + 8 Days on the Mountain)
Accommodation: Mountain Camping
The 8-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting on the remote western side of the mountain, this route offers a quiet beginning and excellent acclimatization due to its longer duration. The trail crosses diverse landscapes, including rainforest, open moorland, alpine desert, and dramatic high-altitude terrain. It joins the Machame Route along the way and follows a “climb high, sleep low” profile, which greatly improves summit success rates.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, complete immigration and customs formalities before meeting our driver outside the arrivals area. You’ll then transfer to Arusha Town and check in at your hotel.
In the evening, meet your Head Guide for a full pre-climb briefing, equipment check, and Q&A session to ensure you’re fully prepared for the adventure ahead.
Overnight: Venus Premier Hotel (BB)
Commute Time: Approx. 1 hour 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha Town.
After breakfast, depart Arusha for Londorossi Gate (approx. 2-hour drive). The final 45 minutes are on a scenic forest track.
At the gate, the guides and porters complete registration and park formalities (about one hour).
The trek begins through lush rainforest, home to colobus and blue monkeys. After a short lunch break en route, continue to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, arriving in the early evening.
Porters will have your tents ready, with hot water for washing and snacks awaiting you. Dinner is freshly prepared by the camp chef.
Note: Nighttime temperatures at this altitude may approach freezing — keep warm layers handy.
Overnight: Mti Mkubwa Camp (FB)
Leave the rainforest behind and enter a moorland environment of heather, tall grasses, and volcanic rock draped with lichens. As you climb, enjoy sweeping views of Kilimanjaro’s western slopes.
Cross several streams before ascending to the Shira Ridge, then descend slightly into the Shira Plateau to reach Shira 1 Camp. From here, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of Kibo Peak across the plateau.
Overnight: Shira 1 Camp (FB)
After breakfast, continue east across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. The gentle trail offers excellent views of Kibo’s glaciered summit and the Northern Ice Fields.
You’ll reach Shira 2 Camp, beautifully situated by a stream on moorland meadows — an ideal location for acclimatization and photography.
Overnight: Shira 2 Camp (FB)
Today is an important acclimatization day. Trek east toward the striking Lava Tower (4,600 m), a volcanic formation known as “The Shark’s Tooth.” Packed lunch will be served at the tower, and weather permitting, you may attempt a short climb on it.
Here, you may start feeling mild effects of altitude — a normal part of the process. After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp (3,950 m), located in a sheltered valley beneath the spectacular Great Barranco Wall.
Enjoy sunset views, a warm dinner, and a well-earned rest.
Overnight: Barranco Camp (FB)
After breakfast, begin the exciting climb up the Great Barranco Wall. Though it looks steep, it’s non-technical and fun to climb. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of Heim Glacier and the cloud-filled valleys below.
Continue along a winding trail through alpine desert terrain to reach Karanga Camp, situated in a high valley with stunning scenery.
Overnight: Karanga Camp (FB)
After breakfast, ascend steadily toward Barafu Camp, located on a rocky ridge above the clouds. “Barafu” means ice in Swahili, and the name suits the chilly, exposed location.
This is your final stop before the summit push — familiarize yourself with the terrain and rest.
An early dinner is served so you can sleep by 7:00 PM before the midnight summit attempt.
Overnight: Barafu Camp (FB)
At midnight, wake up for tea and biscuits, then begin your summit attempt under the stars. The climb is steep and demanding, but your guides will encourage you at every step.
After about 6 hours, you’ll reach Stella Point (5,685 m), just in time to witness a breathtaking African sunrise. Continue for another 2 hours along a snow-covered path to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) — the Roof of Africa!
Celebrate briefly, take photos, and begin your descent back to Barafu Camp for a hot lunch. Continue downward to Mweka Camp through alpine and forest zones.
Overnight: Mweka Camp (FB)
After breakfast, enjoy a cheerful celebration with your crew — singing, dancing, and farewells. Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates.
Proceed to Mweka Village for a hot lunch before driving back to Arusha Town.
Overnight: Venus Premier Hotel (BB)
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure. Check out by 11:00 AM, then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home — leaving Tanzania with unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
